Four exclusive German beers, authentic German food await guests at historic Teutonia Mannerchor Oct. 3 at PSA Oktoberfest.

Four premium German beers– Früh Kölsch, Andrechs Doppelbock Dunkel, Hacker-Pschorr Weisse and Hacker-Pschorr Original Oktoberfest Amber Märzen– will be on tap at Pittsburgh Symphony Association’s Oktoberfest on Oct. 3 at Teutonia Männerchor, the Northside German club.

The Kolsch and Doppelbock are unique to Teutonia Männerchor.  The two Hacker-Pschorr products can be purchased by bottle elsewhere but are not commonly seen on draft.

Früh Kölsch

Kölsch is a style of ale distinctive to Cologne, Germany. The name Kölsch is protected by law so that only beers that meet a certain criteria can bear the name. It is pale in color, cool fermented with top-fermenting yeast, then conditioned at cold temperatures like a lager. It is an extremely drinkable beer with an unsurpassed balance of malt and soft, delicate hops.  Früh continues to be brewed using the original recipe from 1904 that has been passed down through five generations.

ABV 4.8%

Andechs Doppelbock Dunkel

This is a world famous bock from Bavaria’s Holy Mountain. It’s color is reminiscent of dark copper with fiery red nuances and a firm, dense head.  Aromas of soft roasted accents and a nuance of dried fruit carrying a vein of caramel. It has a pleasant effervescence and an unmistakable flavor: mouthcoating and velvety, strong and yet pleasantly malty, it develops an easily recognizable sweetness, embraced in roasted cocoa and a light, bitter hoppiness. 

ABV: 7.1%

Brewery is an active Benedictine Monastery located outside Munich, Germany.  Andechs has a long history of brewing and is still considered to be one of the best of Munich’s breweries.

Hacker-Pschorr Weisse

Hacker-Pschorr Weisse

Centuries-old German wheat beer from Bavaria that offers a very refreshing taste. This unfiltered beer’s cloudy appearance is due to yeast that is retained for flavor and contribution to mouthfeel. The silky shine and intense golden yellow hue is topped off with a compact and creamy head of froth; a truly magnificent sight. The yeast evolves gently to deliver a refreshing fruity and citrus note accompanied by a fine sparkling hint of acidity. The light sweetness of bananas and honey melt on the tongue and mingle with subtle and slightly more bitter notes of nutmeg. Only the best ingredients are used in this unfiltered Weissbier – brewer’s wheat grown in the Champagne Region and selected certified hops from the Hallertau region

ABV: 5.5%

Hacker-Pschorr Original Oktoberfest Amber Märzen

Forbidden as it was to brew in summer, a stronger beer – the Märzen – was brewed earlier in March. It would finally be served at the Oktoberfest, under the “Heaven of Bavaria.”

” We have returned once again to the age-old recipe and recreated that gloriously smooth, honey-coloured piece of history from times gone by.  And all is brewed with due reverence to the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. Pours clear, amber in color with 1/4 inch head. Taste is big white and wheat bready malt and a touch of honey. Medium-light bodied, moderate 
carbonation, sweet. Makes for an excellent, sessionable, clean lager.
