Lee Knox decided to spend her birthday with 100 like-minded music lovers. She opened her Shadyside home Thursday night to host the Symphony Salon. The annual event is a benefit for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra presented by the Pittsburgh Symphony Association.

“It is a magical night of wine-ing, dining, auctioning and the irresistible beat of doo wop,” said event chair Cathy Trombetta (with Bob).

After dinner on the veranda, nearly 100 symphony supporters were treated to music by The Doo Wop Project and Pittsburgh Pops conductor Byron Stripling, performing classic hits from the 1950s.

“It is a blast from the past,” said Jean Horne. “They are six great vocalists from Broadway’s ‘Jersey Boys’ and ‘Motown: The Musical,’ who banded together to create the Doo Wop Project.”

They flew in a day early to perform at the fundraiser before opening at Heinz Hall.

Helping to raise $30,000 for the PSO and bopping to the beat were PSA president Diane Unkovic with Dennis, PSO president Melia Tourangeau and Pam Golden, Kathe and Jim Patrinos, Diana Misetic and Chuck Snyder, Carol and Dan Kamin, Vera and Rick Purcell, Lisa and Martin Earle, Judy Linaburg, Neill Stouffer and Bruce Harshman and Kathy Slencak.
